How To Use the Hour Conversions Calculator
Enter in the start time and the end time to see the time lapsed between the inputted values.
Only enter integers (without : or .) → for example, 12:37 is 1237 or 8:24 is 824
12 pm is noon, 12am is midnight
How to Find the Time Lapsed?
This is almost like regular subtraction, but instead of using the base 10 system, you essentially only can go up to 60.
Use this flowchart to see how to convert the values.
Convert the minutes to decimals by dividing by 60.
Hour Conversions Examples
Suppose our start time is 5:15 and our end time is 3:05.
We know that 15 is greater than 5, so we can subtract the times without having to do any extra conversions.
Subtract the hours: 5 - 3 = 2 hours
Subtract the minutes: 15 - 5 = 10 minutes
Divide 10 by 60 = .16667
The final answer is 2.166 hours or 2 hours and 10 minutes.
Suppose our start time is 1:35 and our end time is 4:10
In this case, 10 is less than 35, so we will have to do some extra conversions.
Subtract the hours and subtract one more: (4 - 1) - 1 = 2 hours
Subtract the minutes and add 60: (10 - 35) + 60 = 35 minutes
Divide 35 by 60 = 0.58
The final answer is 2.58 hours or 2 hours and 35 minutes.
